Spring

Sorry about not posting in so long. It has been a very busy start to spring. Coco came home to get his hocks done and we discovered that he has ring worm, has nothing to do with worms btw. The vet cut a three inch gash down the side of his face while trying to sample the fungus, and now he looks like he's been through a war. He has been good though and I have been doing a lot of stretching exercises to get him back to where he should be. Here are some good ones to try.

  • Bending and Stretching
  • Pull the reins to the side and bend your horses head and neck each direction while simultaneously pushing over their hips. This really helped my horse to loosen up his back end, and helps me to practice before doing lead changes.
  • Round up your horses back
  • so that they are almost prancing, and are light on their feet, once you release it should help them move better, if they resist you have some work to do
  • Small circles
  • All of these exercises can be performed at all of the gaits well, I tend to do them at the trot.
