Fall Update
Now that it is fall again I plan to be starting blogging more. The highlight of the fall was making the finals at the novice championships, and getting tenth under one judge!! I definitely plan on going back again next year since I already qualified. If you are debating between novice championships and congress I would definitely choose novice championships. The atmosphere there is so relaxed and calming, everyone is nice! I think it's because all the rich people want the congress title. Anyway the show is very exhibitor oriented, they have clinics for almost every pattern class. If you want to see what one of those is like go to my YouTube account, CocoRL10, and they should come up, there are too many to link!! I also went to my cousins horse show ands took pictures. I want to create my pen ads so these will help me start to do that, thanks!
Also here are my first photo shoot photos of my cousin at a horse show! Tell me what you think, sorry about the image quality.

Region 6
Over the summer I competed at the Region 6 championship show and was top 10 in Showmanship and Horsemanship, but had a bad day in trail that day. On the first day I was top 5 in trail, horsemanship, and showmanship, even getting second in horsemanship which was a big step for me especially out of 25 horses. The highlight was winning youth showmanship 14-18!! I'm very excited to go and compete at the novice championships! This week coco is staying at my trainers instead of at home with me because this is the last time we will see her before we leave in 2 weeks! More Later

Successful show
I had a good show this weekend, not as great as I would have hoped but I am happy with some of the progress that I made. My best class by far was Showmanship and here are my class results:
- Novice- day 1
- 1st and 2nd out of 17
- Day 2
- 1st and 8th out of 20
- Youth-Day 1
- 1st and 3rd out of 5
- Day 2
- Two 1sts out of 6
I also purchased a photo cd of all my photos, so I will be making some sample ads for myself, and posting them as well as the pictures, would really like some feedback on the ads!!

Horse Shows!!
Coco and I will be heading out to show again!! So excited, this is like our "home" show, as it is 5-10 minutes down the road from the barn. My cousin Hailey, is also showing her horse at this show, she hasn't yet moved up from walk trot, and my aunt will be showing her horse "Picot" in reining and ranch horse. Emily, a boarder, will also be showing her horse Lilly in Ranch Horse. Here are my goals for this show:
- Improve on last time:
- Make sure he understands all of my cues, and I give them to him directly
- Be crisp in showmanship
- Have good upper body position in horsemanship
- Make sure he's moving correctly in pleasure
- Get halter points so I can get my aqha championship
- Make sure he has enough"power" in trail

Spring
Sorry about not posting in so long. It has been a very busy start to spring. Coco came home to get his hocks done and we discovered that he has ring worm, has nothing to do with worms btw. The vet cut a three inch gash down the side of his face while trying to sample the fungus, and now he looks like he's been through a war. He has been good though and I have been doing a lot of stretching exercises to get him back to where he should be. Here are some good ones to try.
- Bending and Stretching
- Pull the reins to the side and bend your horses head and neck each direction while simultaneously pushing over their hips. This really helped my horse to loosen up his back end, and helps me to practice before doing lead changes.
- Round up your horses back
- so that they are almost prancing, and are light on their feet, once you release it should help them move better, if they resist you have some work to do
- Small circles
- All of these exercises can be performed at all of the gaits well, I tend to do them at the trot.

Riding
Yesterday, I got to ride Coco for the first time this year! I mean really ride, seriously. I had just been riding bareback and going on a couple trail rides in between snow storms. We worked on trail and horsemanship, I am going to give you the patterns, and combinations that we work on each time I ride. The trail combo was a just 6 or 7 poles, 6ft apart, and divided in the middle. One side was raised and the other wasn't. Here is the Horsemanship pattern:

Snow day Quiz
Now that we have 2 feet of snow and I can barely walk in it where there is not a path, it's hard to ride if you don't have an indoor. We don't have an indoor so each February Coco goes to the trainers to get in shape and so I can ride, if only on the weekends. I had a lot of free time over the snowdays, we were off yesterday to, and I created theses aqha quizzes. They were intended to be for my other blog , but not a lot of people have responded. Don't worry if you don't know all the answers, the Awards one is hard, and the other one is supposed to be a little easier. If you don't know the answers and you want to find out more go to qhinsight.blogspot.com, my other blog. I give you aqha how to videos.

Online Stable
Recently aqha put out a new website It's called Online Stable, and you can keep track of all your expenses hours with your horse and so on. At the end of the year you will be able to take your info and put it in for taxes, or whatever. So check it out, it's very simple to use, and comment if you have any questions. Just search online stable.com it is free to use and very straightforward, I will try to add screenshots to show what it looks like later.

Catching UP
So, to recap what has been going on in the my off season. First, my horses name is Coco. I will explain the other names as we go along.
Coco and I left Congress (the All American Quarter Horse Congress) in late October. While there we were on the tenth place team, for the youth team tournament, NYATT. Now Coco has gone to the trainers, and I am hoping to go ride this weekend. My projected first show is the Spring Breakout in Virginia. For this blog I am planning on adding a shows tab where I have my placings, both for me and you, and the upcoming shows in case anybody is interested.
VERY excited to be getting back into riding!!!!! Can't wait for spring, that's all for today's post.

Welcome to the "Journey"
Hi, I'm CocoRL10 and this is my brand new blog titled The Quarter Horse Journey. You may have looked at my other blog, Quarter Horse Insight, which specializes in showing and explaining the rules of Aqha. This blog is going to be more personal, and I my goal is to describe my day to day horse events and what's happening in the show industry. My life can get to be a lot of routine in the winter, but I hope to keep it interesting, and up to date.
